With 9:22 left in the second quarter, UC had outgained Fresno State, 195-27, in total offense and appeared on the way to an easy win.

By the end of the game, the Bulldogs had 296 yards to 234 for UC.

Fresno 28, Cincinnati 14. It was raining death as expected until Cincinnati’s offensive line imploded (they allowed 8 sacks). Suggests they have a real problem up front, and if so, that game just became about three times more winnable for us.

Mike Glennon, Jake Vermiglio, J.R. Sweezy and Markus Kuhn are all listed on N.C. State’s two-deep depth chart for Saturday’s game against Central Florida, but it may be wise not to read too much into it.

Glennon, the Pack’s backup quarterback, suffered what was described as a bruised knee in the second half of the Pack’s 48-7 win over Western Carolina in the season-opener. Vermiglio, Sweezy and Kuhn were suspended and did not dress for the game.

O’Brien says the Bong Clubbers will go through a week of practice and the coaches will make a decision toward the end of the week. Not that I’m complaining, but why isn’t George Bryan in as much trouble as these guys?

As for Glennon, TOB was as mum as usual on the injury topic, saying,

“I don’t have to do an injury report this week until Thursday, if I have to do it at all this week. So we’ll figure it out.“ Fine, fine. There’s no need to be a grump about it.

Let’s hope Sweezy and Kuhn work their way out of the dog house this week, because we may need them more than we thought. Central Florida’s offense piled up 200+ yards on the ground and through the air, a performance that probably exceeded expectations even though it came against I-AA South Dakota.

[Defensive end Bruce Miller] was one of many veterans on the Knights’ roster who played their first college football game against the Wolfpack in 2007. He got his first career sack during the Knights’ memorable 25-23 upset at N.C. State.

When he was asked what he remembered from the N.C. State win, Miller grinned and said, “Sack for a safety. I remember Kevin Smith running down the sideline. I remember 85,000 fans screaming. I was like, `Holy cow, this is cool.’ “

The crowd wasn’t quite that big. N.C. State announced an crowd of 57,283 at Carter-Finley Stadium, but Miller’s teammates agree the atmosphere was intense.

UCF prepares for NC State. It’s always nice to see players from other teams speak highly of the atmosphere at Carter-Finley, even if their memories are a little fonder than we’d like.

Vermiglio, Kuhn, Sweezy didn’t dress for WCU game.
